I’m going to save my breath and not get into the differences between Calgary and Edmonton. It’s easy to compare these two on paper, but it’s a completely different story  when you live there! But just for the record, I’m forever partial to the latter since I’d rather shoot myself in the foot than cheer for the Flames. Plus, these two cities mean absolutely nothing to anyone outside of Canada unless you’re an American that’s really into Hockey! ;) Which reminds me of that time when I was in Austin and someone asked me where in Canada I was from. Whenever I get asked this question, I usually reply with “western Canada” because from experience, saying “Edmonton” or “Alberta” tends to draw blank stares. But then homeboy completely takes me by surprise and asks, “oh, from Edmonton or Calgary?” WHAAAAAT!!!!!! A non-Canadian actually knows of Canadian cities other than Vancouver and Toronto!!??! Amazing. He explained that his dad lives in Calgary, working in oil & gas, so he’s been there a few times. Since Alberta is the Texas of Canada (wassup, cattle & oil!), I would say that Calgary is much like Dallas and Edmonton like Austin in terms of size and culture. I don’t know if that analogy means anything to anyone, but if you’ve been to the 4 cities, you’d probably agree.

Anyways, I’ve wasted no time in integration as I quickly found myself at  the Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros show during my first night in town; it was sold out but my friend had an extra ticket and I’m so glad I went because they were so cool! If they stop by your city, definitely check them out. Also, I’m still trying to get into a routine and haven’t been able to post regularly. Pardon my absence!
